Rode into the New Year

We just had our first ride of the year yesterday! And my little brother was kind enough to snap some photos of us riding.

Ava performed really well besides a few slight spooks at some invisible monsters. One of our biggest things that we need to work on is building muscle, have her learn to balance herself better, and get her to move with more impulsion- she can be a lazy bum sometimes. Fixing my chair seat on the other hand with be a whole different story, I feel like I'm in the correct position but then looking at these photos (especially at the canter) I can see my leg is way too forward. It may be the saddle that could be pushing my leg into an awkward position but mostly it must be myself that needs to work on a better seat.

There is always something to work on. I love it!

  1. How's the leg position without stirrups? I think the saddle is kind of putting you forward into that chair seat. I know it is hard to build correct muscle memory if you are fighting tack.

  3. I saw you commented on my blog and thought I'd check you out (stalker haha). Literally saw the first picture of you cantering around with a rope halter and a lead and said, "No THIS is my kind of blogger!" Love her. She's adorable.

    1. Haha, stalker's are accepted (the good kind of stalkers anyway :P). So glad you stopped by and so happy I've found another believer in halter riding!

  4. Yea! Looks great! And sounds alot like my 3 yr old- she was often goosey on her training trail rides- just looking for stuff to be nervous about but my trainer could one rein her and maintain control. I think more miles under saddle will help. And when I start riding her I need to remember to be confident!

    1. Yeah, using a one-rein stop is sometimes really helpful. Sounds like she is well on her way to being a great trail horse though :)
